Microscopic anatomy of epithelial tissue
Epithelial tissue is tissue that makes the external surface of the body (skin) and line the body cavities such as the mouth, stomach and intestines (the mucosa). Skin and mucous membranes of the oral cavity, made of multi-layer flat epithelium (Type epithelium, which consists of a flat cells located in several layers.
The composition of Epithelial tissue
- Abundant Cells. The largest number of epithelial tissues consists of a set of closely Packed epithelial cells (Fig. 2-2). Epithelial cells are connected together in the leaves.
- Sparse Extracellular Matrix
- Extracellular matrix component of epithelial tissue is small, consisting mainly of a thin Mat called the basal membrane, which lies at the heart of the epithelium.
- Under the basal membrane lies connective tissue.
- Keratinization. Keratinization-the process by which epithelial cells on the surface of the skin become stronger and waterproof.
- Keratinized skin cells have no nuclei and form strong, resistant layer on the skin surface.
- Most strongly keratinized epithelium body was found on the palms of hands and soles of the feet.
- Nonkeratinized Epithelial Cells
- Nonkeratinized epithelial cells have nuclei and to act as a cushion against mechanical stress and wear.
Nonkeratinized epithelial cells softer.
- Nonkeratinized epithelium in areas such as the lining of the cheeks, allowing mobility need to talk, chew, and make facial expressions.
- The blood supply. Epithelial tissue contains no blood vessels; * power received from the vessels contained in the underlying connective tissue (Fig. 2-2).
