Semiluxation of tooth

Luxation of tooth is a pathological dislocation of tooth. The most dangerous thing about luxation of tooth is that it injures the alveoli. There are not so many factors that cause luxation of teeth. One of the most widespread causes is mechanical effect (usually a stroke that damages dental ligamentous apparatus).

Different groups of teeth are more prone to different factors that cause luxation. For instance, luxation of canine and central teeth is usually caused by a stroke or a bad fall while root teeth are usually damaged as a result of non-observance of tooth extraction technique.

Luxation of tooth can be accompanied by fracture of neurovascular fascicle of the tooth and the sides of alveole.

Factors that cause luxation of teeth

In most cases luxation of teeth is caused by various mechanical effects applied to the dental crown. These effects may include biting hard food, severe strokes, some bad habits like opening bottles with the help of teeth, hard objects in food, and irregular tooth extraction.
The latter causes luxation of the adjacent tooth. Mind that all these factors are ?man-made` and can be easily eliminated. So be careful with your teeth.

Luxation of tooth leads to change of its position in alveolar tissues. There are different types of luxation: isolated (is often accompanied by fracture of dental crown or root of the tooth. There are also cases of fractures of the jaw or alveolar ridge. The type of fracture depends on the force of mechanical effect, individual structure of bones and origin of force.

Symptoms of semiluxation of tooth

The first symptom of semiluxation of tooth is displacement of tooth in relation to denture. The injured tooth causes constant pain that grows stronger when you the tooth. Chewing and biting becomes increasingly difficult. The tooth becomes shaky and constantly disturbs the patient (because of its unusual position). Sometimes ulorrhagia is observed.in other cases the patient`s mouth is always half-open.

Partial exposure of root of the tooth can increase the mobility of tooth. Patients claim that they have a feeling that the crown of tooth has lengthened. Movability of tooth depends on the severity of injury. Semiluxation of tooth is always accompanied by traumas of periodontal tissues, pulp, and alveole.

Mind that even though semiluxation of tooth can be diagnosed independently, you still need the dentist`s advice to cope with the problem and preserve all functions of the tooth.

Treatment of semiluxation of tooth

If the tooth is slightly displaced, splintage will be used. Spintlage means that the tooth will be fixed to adjacent teeth with the help of wire splints. It will take about 1,5 months to restore the functions of the injured tooth. Control X-ray examination of the damaged tooth will be done some months later to make sure that the tooth is all right.

If the trauma has led to destruction of pulp (nerve), endodontic treatment is applied. Then it will be necessary to fill the root canal. This way the natural position of tooth as well as its functions can be restored.
