a. The presence of periodontal disease is measured clinically several ways. One way is to calculate loss of periodontal attachment. The loss of attachment is the term used to describe the destruction of connective tissues of parodentium and alveolar bone that support the teeth. Figure 5-3 shows that investments loss of 4 mm or more affects approximately half of adults aged 50 to 59 [2].

B. Age from 60 to 69, less than half of the adult population in the USA has kept 21 teeth or more (Fig. 5-4) [2].
